About me

Hey everyone! Thanks for coming along today.

I’m Jessica. I’m a recent ex-PhD student. I have a background in Genetics and science communication and I love yoga, vegetables and going out for coffee. I also suffer from occasional bouts of clinical depression.

When I started this blog, I was in the second year of my PhD and taking some time away due to issues with my mental health. Since then, I have made the decision not to return to my PhD and so now I am a professional job hunter. Originally, this blog was intended to be a space for discussion and support around mental health issues and academia. Now that I am no longer in academia, the blog is probably going to go through some changes. Who knows where we’ll end up? For now, I hope you’ll all join me in my adventures in unemployment!

…Follower of Fashion.

When I first floated the idea for this blog, it was going to be about what to wear to conferences etc. Obviously it’s changed a lot since then and, given that I most of my current fashion choices are PJs and yoga wear, I don’t have a lot to say on the subject of smuasual, but I was already too attached to the name to part with it. Stay tuned though for my thoughts on “what to wear to job interviews”!
